Deputy Information Minister Baba Jamal has cleared his position on the comparison he drew between the intelligence levels of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Nana Akuffo Addo and President Mills. Speaking on Multi TV’s political talk show, Majority Caucus, Baba Jamal said “because I am not intelligent, I wouldn’t want to go and question the intelligence of somebody. Because I am not brilliant, even my law school I am struggling with it. I couldn’t finish” he said adding that “I had to defer it because I was appointed. I deferred it because I didn’t have time to do it. I wouldn’t attempt to call somebody unintelligent or non visionary”. Baba Jamal last week on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program drew parallels between the opposition leader and the President following the call by the former for visionary leadership. He said on the program that although both Professor Mills and Nana Addo were class mates at the University of Ghana and “sat in the same classroom, one had a first class and the other had a third class.” Defending his comments on Multi TV’s Majority Caucus, Baba Jamal said “in a situation where [you have] two people [and] one tries to question the intelligence of another, you need to find a way of accessing the two and that is why I came out to question that. I don’t think that Nana Addo has the moral capacity to question the intelligence of Professor Mills.” The Deputy Information Minister thus dared the members of the opposition NPP to come clear on the class obtained by their flag bearer at the University. “I want to state it again that the two were in the same university, at the same time. They were contemporaries and one had a first class in the chosen field that he chose and then the other had a third class… and I want them to come and challenge me that Nana Addo didn’t get a third class” he stressed. “Akuffo Addo may be more intelligence than I am, but I am saying that in terms of intelligence, Professor Mills stands tall above him” he added. Doing another comparison of both men in terms of their public service profiles, Baba Jamal concluded that the President has offered more service to the nation than Nana Addo. The Deputy Information Minister also challenged Nana Addo to state publicly his stance on the controversy surrounding the British Prime Minister’s threat to cut aid to countries that have anti-gay legislations. He cautioned the public not to take the President’s calm demeanor for granted adding that “those who are beating the war drums should be careful because it does not mean that we can take that peace for granted and think that because he (President) is a peaceful man he will allow people to destabilize the peace.” He stated that anyone who disturbed the country’s peace and tranquility will be duly dealt with when apprehended. “I will want to emphasize the call on our brothers and sisters and those people who think that they can use force to take power, those people who think that they can create panic and fear in the society so that people will say, look, let’s give it to them and have our peace. I want to assure them that the president is promising peace and will act peace. Of course within the peace itself, people must be brought to order, so once we are going to ensure peace, you must ensure also that whoever tries to destabilize the peace is brought to order” he stressed.
