The District Chief Executive, Abu Kabienbata Kangsangabata in donating the motorbikes said the donation forms part of the National Democratic Congress government’s pledge to deepen the local government process through decision making.
The Nadowli DCE said it is based on that score that the NDC government is providing the free means of transport to the local legislatures.
Hon Abu warned that the motorbikes are not for individual members of the Assembly but rather for the electoral areas, adding, that they be used in the interest of electoral areas to assist in the monitoring and evaluation of development project within their electoral areas.
He appealed to assembly members to carry pregnant women who are in labour to health facilities in their electoral areas for safe delivery.
The Nadowli DCE advised the assembly members to handle the bikes with utmost care and ensure that they are routinely maintained.
He asked the Assembly Members who doesn’t know how to ride to own up so that assembly could organize a training programme for them.
The Upper West representative to the National Association of Local Authorities (NALAG), Naa Abu Abdul-Rahman thanked the government for the gesture and appealed for more to be added.
Naa Abu Abdul Rahman also thanked the government for the creation of 42 new districts in the country and appealed to the government to create more because it will increase further the decentralization process.
