Three policemen have suffered injuries after they clashed with soldiers in Tamale.
The fight follows reports that soldiers in the region were in the habit of beating policemen on duty.
A police officer is alleged to have attacked a soldier who later brought his colleagues on a revenge mission.
A police officer and an eye-witness told Joy FM’s Northern Regional correspondent Mahama Shaibu that the police were at their duty post - controlling traffic – when three military men came and ordered them to leave the post.
Without any provocation, the witness said, the soldiers attacked the police officers and beat them “mercilessly”, wounding one of the policemen seriously.
The police are said to have abandoned their post, and many shops around the area closed as people run helter-skelter to take cover.
The injured police officers are said to be responding to treatment at hospital.
