Managing Editor of the Al Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature says recent comments by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser is a true reflection of what the NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo represents.
Bature said Anthony Karbo's conduct corroborates claims that the NPP is indeed a violent party.
Anthony Karbo is reported to have charged the party youth leadership to be fearless and militant during a three-day workshop organized by the National Youth Wing for Constituency Youth Organizers in the three Northern regions in Tamale.
He is also quoted to have urged the youth to use the Arab Spring, especially the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, as an inspiration in the NPP campaign to unseat the NDC in December.
The NPP’s National Youth Organiser’s has been condemned greatly by the public who believe such an explosive statement has the tendency to incite violence ahead of the December polls.
Some political analysts have even called on the NPP leadership to disassociate themselves from the statement because it could dwindle the party’s electoral fortunes.
The youth wing of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a statement issued in Accra Thursday, described Anthony Karbo’s comment as “unacceptable, ill-informed, malicious and awkward" with a call on the NPP Youth to defy the directive from Anthony Karbo.
The NDC Youth Organizer, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, who chastised his colleague from the NPP cautioned the youth to engage in issue-based campaign and also desist from acts which could breach the peace of the country.
However, Anthony Karbo in a rebuttal said his comment is in no way to incite the party youth to take up arms.
He explained that NPP supporters have endured victimization from their opponents for far too long, hence it is time for them to fight for their rights. He cited the burning of houses of members of the NPP in the Northern region as a clear instance of intimidation from their opponents.
Karbo added that the NPP would resist any attempt by the ruling party to oppress them in the run up to the December polls.
On the contrary, Alhaji Bature on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, noted that the conduct of Karbo exposes how the NPP is desperate for power and is willing to do everything just to win the upcoming polls.
He said a youth organizer would only spill out such an explosive comment in a party led by a war monger like Nana Akufo-Addo who wants to be president of Ghana by “hook or crook”.
Alhaji Bature said Nana Akufo-Addo by making infamous statements like “All-die-die” and "win-at–all-cost" makes him the “father of militancy”.
“You don’t expect that man (Nana) to give birth to a humble person. Nana Akufo-Addo is transferring, instilling and imbibing in the NPP his militant character”.
