The People’s National Congress’ delegates congress scheduled to take place at the main auditorium of the Sunyani Polytechnic has suffered yet another delay.
Though organizers have tipped the congress which has suffered several postponements as a result of internal litigations for 9 am this morning, it is not clear when proceedings will begin as at midday.
Although an Accra High Court this morning threw away an injunction filed by five members of the party, describing the move as inconvenient and inappropriate, organizers say the congress cannot start now. This means delegates and invited guests including diplomats will have to spend more hours than expected.
Congress materials are also yet to arrive while delegates wait anxiously for start of proceedings.
Executives of the party are currently locked up in a National Executive Council meeting at the Tropical Hotel where several issues including proposed merger with the Convention Peoples Party and amendment of party’s constitution are being discussed.
Chairman of Congress Committee, Tseney Sama Kerim apologized for the late start. He tells delegates and observers to bear with the organizers as some challenges for the delay are being addressed.
He asks patrons to converge at 3 p.m where NEC meeting would have ended followed by the congress at 6 pm.
One of the diplomats who declined to comment on the issue publicly told Deputy Bono Ahafo PNC Chairman she ‘feels bad about the development since she would be compelled to drive in the night’ something she wanted to avoid.
