The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that Mohammed Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Akwatia, does not pose a threat to the NPP in the constituency.
This was contained in release issued in Koforidua, signed by Alhaji Omar Bodinga, the Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, in a reaction to a publication in a national daily that reported that Baba Jamal had confidently said he was poised to capture the Akwatia seat from the NPP.
The release said there was no way Baba Jamal could become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia because the NPP was solid on the ground and would retain the Akwatia seat for the fifth conservative time.
It, urged NPP supporters and sympathisers in the area to continue to work hard and remain vigilant in the forthcoming biometric registration exercise in order to prevent unauthorised people from taking part in the exercise.
It said considering the performance of the NPP government in the area during its eight-year rule, as against what it called the abysmal performance of the NDC government, there was no way Baba Jamal and the NDC could even increase their votes, let alone win the seat.
The release also urged all party supporters in the constituency to close their ranks and rally behind the NPP parliamentary aspirant, Dr Kofi Asare, to retain the seat, contending that the rejection of Baba Jamal since 1996 was a clear testimony that he would be defeated again in this year’s polls.
It urged the constituents to turn up in their numbers to register and earn the right to vote for the NPP in this year’s general elections
