The Member of Parliament for Akwapim South, Osei Bonsu Amoah has debunked claims that he was a beneficiary of GH¢290,000 from the GH¢51 million judgement debt awarded to beleaguered businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
The former deputy Education, Youth and Sports minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, said he would never condone and connive with someone to rob the state of huge sums of money at the expense of the many suffering Ghanaians.
O. B. Amoah was reacting to the February 13th edition of the Al Hajj newspaper which cited him and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) apparatchiks of benefiting from the benevolence of Mr. Woyome.
The paper alleged that Mr. Woyome also financed O.B Amoah in both the 2008 and the 2012 NPP parliamentary primaries to the tune of GH¢200,000.
The Al Hajj newspaper described O.B Amoah as a traitor for exposing his long-standing friend from going for the judgement debt and also blew his (Woyome) cover to the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong, who has become the the anti-judgment debt payment crusader.
In a rebuttal on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, O.B. Amoah stated empathically that he never aided Mr. Woyome to defraud to state.
The NPP MP added that he is prepared to die for Ghana than cover up for someone guilty of a hideous crime.
“I know Woyome but it does not mean I should condone with him to take money from government. He knows very well that I have kept the stance that he (Woyome) is not entitled to that money and I still stand by it”.
Admitting that Mr. Woyome partly sponsored him, the Aburi-Nsawam MP noted that the embattled businessman was seen as a member of the NPP and as such could rely on for any assistance.
The Akuapim South MP however declined to mention the exact amount of money he got from Mr. Woyome.
Commenting on allegations that he betrayed his long-standing friend to a colleague MP, he stated that all parliamentarians have access to the Auditor General’s report which implicated Mr. Woyome, hence he did not need to leak any information to Kennedy Agyapong.
O.B. Amoah said he has deferred the matter to his lawyers for further action to be taken on the issue.
