Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has called for a meeting Tuesday among political parties in the region to discuss issues relating to the biometric voter register.
With 10 months to the general elections there’s uncertainty about the Electoral Commission’s plans for the biometric registration process and the minister wants all parties involved to meet and chart the way forward.
New Patriotic Party Regional Chairman, Frederick Fredua Anto, agrees the meeting is opportune and should be seen in good light. He says his party will attend to learn what plans the minister proposes to assist the situation.
The NPP’s regional organizer, Kennedy Kankam, had questioned the Regional Minister’s authority to call such a meeting instead of the constitutionally-mandated body, the Electoral Commission, however the chairman says the invitation should be honoured first ahead of any misgivings.
Ashanti Regional Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Joseph Yammin believes the meeting is necessary given the very high interest of the people in politics.
He told Joy News in a region where most people eat, drink and sleep politics and with the Regional Minister as the chairman of the regional security council, his role for a peaceful run of the ballot and general security is key.
