The Chairman of the Executive Asset Committee of the 2009 Transitional Team, Dr. Don Arthur has debunked claims by former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, that some relevant documents allegedly missing at the chief of staff’s office are with him.
According to him, the former chief of staff might be suffering from amnesia and therefore needs to revisit his memory again to help solve the issue.
Government is alleging that some relevant files were taken away by former government officials which will help prosecute cases such as the Woyome/Waterville matter better and hints on plans to retrieve them soon.
The Deputy Minister for Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa speaking on Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile, Saturday hinted that the government was investigating stolen files by ex-government officials.
Former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration has denied accusations from government that he took away some vital official documents upon leaving office in 2009, which could help in uncovering some heinous crimes committed during the NPP era.
Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, speaking on Citi fm challenged the NDC government to query a Presidential Staffer, Dr. Don Arthur, for the documents allegedly missing from the Office of the Chief of Staff.
However, speaking on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii-Sen on Tuesday, presidential staffer, Dr. Don Arthur noted that Mr. Mpiani failed to hand over documents to him.
He stressed that at the time the transitional team needed Mr. Mpiani at the castle; he failed to turn up but rather hinted “he will meet the new Chief of Staff to be appointed by the president”.
“When we called Mr. Mpiani, he didn’t come on that day but appeared on the 12th of January. He took me to the various state buildings and handed them over to me. I told him that he can leave and that if we need him, we will invite him and that was all”.
Dr. Don Arthur asserted that the former chief of staff did not take the transitional team to the office of the chief of staff on pledge that he will meet his successor. “He didn’t take me to the chief of staff office. I thought with experience that with time we will ascertain all relevant documents because we wanted the transition to be cordial”.
He admonished former chief of staff, Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani to help ascertain the documents and stop the blame games. “He didn’t give me any document. He should stop the blame games. He just assured me to meet the incoming chief of staff so he must recall what transpired between us and help solve the issue than shifting the goalpost”.
He reckoned the action of Mr. Mpiani over the matter is just a face saving tactics to exonerate himself. “Maybe he has seen that the reality has dawned on him and must implore all odds to shift the matter aside”.
“What Mpiani handed over to us are buildings not intangible assets like documents. I think he must recall his memories and help the situation out. May be he might be suffering from amnesia and should come again”.
