The Osu Cemetary ground shook at 12:48 p.m but it wasn’t the result of an earthquake; it was because a great man being seen off.
The feet of mourners that trailed the casket carrying the remains of late broadcaster Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong had caused it. They were restless as the pastor uttered those painful words from the Bible.
The well-sculptured grave worsened their grief and reminded them of the new home of their son, brother, colleague and employee, KABA.
But it is the deafening silence of KABA inside the casket that ripped the heart of widow, Valentina Acheampong and mother, Felicia Amoah Ampeyin (Akosua). The broadcaster with a giant stature has cast a giant silence that will remain unaltered for eternity.
He is quiet not because he has no voice of his own, but that his voice, known in the political circles of Ghana, has been silenced by death.
The cry of mourners drowned the words of the pastor.
Family members, friends and colleagues at The Multimedia Group had the opportunity to pay their last respects after the pre-burial service.
The late host of Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen could not see the mournful faces standing by his grave.
But it was the voices of the Gethsemane Methodist Church choir that sounded the end of KABA’s life on earth.
The voices of the choristers were united, symbolizing the spirit of mankind after the demise of loved ones.
The State House where the funeral service was held could not accommodate the hundreds of people who came to see off the broadcaster.
KABA was born in 1980, some 37 years ago. He was a teacher before entering into the field of journalism.
He died on November 18, 2017.
