Former Finance Minister under the Kufuor Administration, Mr Osafo Marfo is accusing Roads and Highways Minister, Joe Gidisu of peddling falsehood before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
Mr. Gidisu had alleged that Osafo Marfo chaired a committee in 2007 that acknowledged the Kufuor government’s indebtedness to Construction Pioneers (CP).
He was answering questions on the controversial 94 million Euros judgement debt payment to the construction firm.
He told the committee that the NPP government had supervised the initial judgement debt payments to CP.
But, in a sharp rebuttal, Osafo Marfo told Joy News the Roads Minister got his facts wrong when he testified before the Public Accounts Committee.
“I left government as a minister on the 27th of April 2006 so a committee established in 2007 chaired by Minister Finance Osafo Marfo is just not accurate but I see an attempt to by the NDC government – and it was obvious from Joe Gidisu’s presentation – of a serious equalising,” he stated.
Mr. Gidisu has admitted he got his facts wrong but insisted the substance of his submission before the public accounts committee remains true.
Mr. Gidisu also told Joy News that a former Transport Minister under the Kufuor government, Dr. Richard Anane wrote a letter dated 23rd December, 2008 to the Attorney General in which he drew the government’s attention to the amount of money owed CP.
He said former Attorney General, Joe Ghartey had also advised the finance ministry to pay CP $9 million. He, therefore, challenged any attempt to lay blame entirely on the NDC government.
