A deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress has described as petty the party’s decision to suspend him over contents of a mysterious tape.Kofi Adams stands accused of plotting the defeat of the Mills administration in the 2012 elections and the evidence by the accusers is a recorded telephone conversation purported to be between Adams and the New Patriotic Party’s Gabby Asare Otchere Darko.The deputy General Secretary who is also aide to ex-president Rawlings has vehemently denied ownership of the voice on the tape but that did not stop the party’s executive from suspending him.He was handed a three month suspension pending further investigation into the matter.But speaking on MultiTV and Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile, Kofi Adams said the decision was petty, especially when the party has not given him a hearing on the matter.He stated emphatically the voice on the tape is not his but admitted having raised similar issues about some unfairness in the Sunyani congress.Kofi Adams insisted if the party is convinced the voice on the tape is his, it did not have to take 90 days for them to investigate the matter.He said he is not bothered at all but rather buoyed by the “goodwill messages from the rank and file of the party."He is still consulting with his lawyers and will soon take a decision.A deputy Information Minister James Agyanim Boateng who makes a return to the Multimedia platform after government’s unprecedented four days of boycott said the controversial tape is a "matter for the party to decide and Ghanaians to judge."He said the voice on the other side of the tape was clearly engaging in a sell-out, a voice many largely believe is that of Kofi Adams.He was rather quick to add that it is not in his place to say emphatically whether that was the voice of Kofi Adams or not.He also described as unfounded allegations by the ex-first lady that the Sunyani Congress was rigged in favour of the sitting president.
