A 12-year-old boy who sustained gunshot wounds at the Foase Kokoben Electoral area during the biometric registration exercise is receiving treatment at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hospital in Kumasi.
A National Democratic Congress (NDC) agent, Justice Opoku, in an attempt to control some commotion at a polling centre in the Bekwai Constituency, pulled a gun apparently intending to fire a warning shot but injured the boy in the process.
The incident was occasioned by contestations over the eligibility of some persons wanting to register – a situation that resulted in some confusion which precipitated Opoku’s pulling of the gun and the subsequent shooting.
Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey reported the police have confirmed the incident.
Mr Opoku reported himself to the police after the shooting incident and is currently in police custody.
He will be arraigned before court later today.
Pockets of violence have been recorded since Saturday when the biometric voter registration exercise begun.
Joy FM Correspondent in the Brong Ahafo, Iddrisu Awudu, reported of violent confrontation in some electoral areas.
He said one person was hacked with a machete Sunday.
