A Deputy Finance Minister, Fiifi Kwetey says government has resuscitated the ‘intensive care’ economy it inherited from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Fiifi, the Mills-led administration, through prudent economic management, has restored hope to the citizenry - therefore “Ghanaians have no reason to experiment with a group that absolutely wreck the economy in 2008”.
The Deputy Finance Minister who chaired the second series of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Setting the records straight forum Thursday, touted what he said are unprecedented achievements of President John Evans Atta Mills’ first term in office.
Fiifi Kwetey indicated that, President Mills in three years has made giant strides in all sectors of the economy - so much that the NDC can point to solid accomplishments in three years.
Mr. Kwetey made these observations when he took his turn on Asempa FM’s flagship programme Ekosii Sen Friday.
The Deputy Finance Minister noted that Ghanaians would be making a very big mistake if they decide to ignore the phenomenal achievements of President Mills and return the NPP to power - a development he said could be very detrimental to Ghana’s development.
Fiifi Kwetey noted that President Mills has within three years surpassed the NPP’s so-called eight years track record when it comes to the prudent management of the economy.
“President Mills in three years has not just achieved an unprecedented single digit inflation but also an unprecedented low budget deficit, GDP growth, an unprecedented rise in Foreign Direct Investments and portfolio investments, single spine salary scheme, an unprecedented international confidence in Ghana’s economy among other things” he stated.
Fiifi Kwetey urged Ghanaians to look forward for an updated version of the Green Book which contained the top 50 achievements of the NDC for details on what the Mills-led government has been able to do since it assumed office.
In a quick rebuttal, a Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, John Boadu chided Fiifi Kwetey for misleading the public in the name of setting the records straight.
He explained that the NDC's first term has saddled the nation with an unprecedented debts of almost GH¢23.6 billion and feared the situation could worsen if the Mill-led administration is allowed to stay in power.
John Boadu bemoaned what he said was the high level of corruption being perpetrated by members of the NDC and called on all well-meaning Ghanaians who have the country at heart to show the ruling party the red card in December.
