Ghana will participate in 13 out of the 26 sporting disciplines at this year’s London Olympics slated for July.
President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Professor Francis Dodoo said at the launch of the Committee’s preparatory activities in Accra, organizers will hold a mini version of the Olympics to prepare the athletes.
He noted the sports sector faced a number of bottlenecks but added the committee is committed to address those bottlenecks so as to improve on sports in the country and at the Olympic level.
He also called for improvement in indoor games in the country.
According to Professor Dodoo, the athletes are ready for the 2012 Olympic games and thus urged sponsors to invest in some of them to enable them participate effectively in the various disciplines.
The British High Commissioner in Ghana, Peter Jones observed there are high expectations from this year’s Olympic Games as it coincides with the diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
The High Commissioner encouraged the athletes to put up their best to win medals for Ghana.
The Olympic Games is scheduled from July 27 to August 12, 2012 and the Paralympic games follow from August 29 to November 9 2012.
