Andy Appiah Kubi, counsel for beleaguered Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong has described as mischievous moves by some individuals to haul his client to the International Criminal Court (ICC). He said such actions will rather exacerbate the supposed ethnic tension Ken Agyapong is said to have created in the country. The Ghana Coalition for the International Criminal Court has petitioned the ICC to investigate allegations of ethnocentric statements by Ken Agyapong which according to the group have the tendency to plunge the country into anarchy. The coalition which provided the ICC with audio recordings, newspaper cuttings and other evidential materials to the court said Mr. Agyapong’s statements made him liable for prosecution under Article 3C of the United Nations Convention on Genocide. But in a rebuttal on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, Appiah Kubi said that the coalition has no locus to petition the ICC court to investigate the ‘ethnocentric' comment by the Assin North MP. He insisted that the so-called coalition is ‘fake’ and challenged them to demonstrate their capacity to address The Hague about the Ken Agyapong saga. The lawyer said out of malice and ignorance, some people have misconstrued the statements of the Assin North MP for political expediency. “They have ignored the ‘IF’ clause in Ken’s statement and are fanning ethnic tension in the country. They are not exhibiting their ignorance of court procedures but are damaging the image of Ghana internationally,” he bewailed. He indicated that Ken Agyapong declared war on the activities that rocked the ongoing biometric registration exercise especially in Odododiodoo which he said left some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters injured in police presence. Lawyer Appiah Kubi said it will not inure to any political party's benefit to create ethnic divisions in the country ahead of the December general elections. Meanwhile the Information and Press office of ICC has confirmed receipt of the petition and said it would examine it.
