The presidential hopeful of the Progressive Peoples Party is convinced poor leadership is chiefly the reason for the soaring unemployment rate in the country.Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh that successive governments have not made the issue of unemployment a priority and can therefore be faulted for the growing phenomenon.He was commenting on concerns raised by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Kofi Asamoah about increasing unemployment in Ghana.Mr Asamoah expressed his dissatisfaction on the occasion of the national Workers Day celebration in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.In proffering solutions to the canker, the founder and leader of the PPP, Dr Nduom said the government must put in a deliberate policy of industrialization which would in no small way solve the problem of unemployment.He was also concerned about the “low quality of education” which he said is also a bane to providing jobs.As an entrepreneur, Dr Nduom said, the private sector is frustrated with the quality of education, even those churned out at the various universities.In order for a knowledge economy to thrive in Ghana, the PPP leader said the government must use its purchasing power to ensure value addition for the youth to make them employable.He was particularly unhappy with the importation of sacks to carry raw cocoa beans for export. He said the time has come to add value to our own products.
