The refusal of the queen mother of Anyima in the Kintampo South District of the Brong Ahafo region, Nana Saa Gyamfua to submit the black stool she forcibly took away before the death of the chief, Nana Twea Boateng Brempong could lead to a bloodbath in the area.
Speaking to Daily Guide, Madam Elizabeth Donyina, a junior sister of the late chief, said on 7th October 2009, the queen mother allegedly led some macho men she hired from Sunyani to attack the palace.
She said one Kwaku Adjei, who was sleeping in the stool room, was brutalised during the attack.
She told Daily Guide that the said Kwaku Adjei was incapacitated after the attack, According to Madam Donyina, when the stool was taken away, supporters of Nana Brempong threatened to fight back to retrieve the stool but they were encouraged by the late chief to exercise restraint in order to pursue the case at the Nkoranza Traditional Council.
She said the case was subsequently reported to the council and it was decided at the sitting of the council that the queen mother should return the stool but she refused to do so when the litigants returned to Anyima.
Nana Brempong died out of frustration and the body was kept at a mortuary at Kumasi.
Madam Donyina said according to custom, the late chief was to be buried in the royal mausoleum but when the corpse was brought to Anyima, custodians of the mausoleum said the body could not be buried unless the black stool was returned to the owners.
Several attempts by relatives of the late chief for the queen mother to return the black stool to facilitate the burial of the late chief proved futile.
According to Madam Donyina, the intervention of the Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyemang Kodom IV failed to resolve the matter. A messenger of the Omanhene invoked the great oath.
Madam Donyina said the Krontihene, Nana Twum and the queen mother ordered that the late chief should be buried at the palace since the queen mother was not prepared to bring the black stool.
When Daily Guide contacted Nana Saa Gyamfuaa she initially said she knew nothing about the missing black stool but when she was quizzed further she declined to comment further.
Since the burial of the late chief a week ago, there has been uneasy calm in the Anyi-ma township as both sides are said to be arming themselves for a showdown.
When Daily Guide visited the town, people were seen standing in groups.
Several people were seen leaving the town with their baggage to avoid skirmishes.
