Police in the Northern Region say calm has returned to Kum, an area in Yendi where Abudus installed a new chief Saturday morning.
There were earlier reports of mounting tension as the regent of the Abudu family installed a new chief for the area.
Kum-lana Abdulai was reported to have been installed by the Bolin-Lana as chief of Kum but he was prevented by the Regional Security Council from entering the palace.
Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Tuffour told Joy News the police are on the ground to avert any clashes.
“This chieftaincy issue has been a thorny issue in Yendi and I think it has the tendency of (disrupting) the fragile peace of the area,” he said.
He added that people are going about their normal activities.
