There are fears of further clashes at Kade in the Eastern region if one of the factions in a raging chieftaincy dispute in the town goes ahead with a plan to install a new chief. An attempt to install the rival chief yesterday was disrupted by the police. The man due to have been sworn-in, Nana Debra Twum and the Krontihene of the traditional council were arrested for organizing the event against the orders of the Okyehene and without a police permit. But speaking to Joy News from Police custody yesterday, the Krontihene, Nana Benchie Darko Ampem says the new chief will be sworn-in nonetheless. He claimed the police had offered them protection in a procession to introduce the yet-to-be-outdoored chief to the people and that it was surprising that just when they were about to settle down and finalise the coronation ceremony, the police turned on them. "For the records, we have paraded a new chief throughout the whole town for the [town’s] people to see him and therefore he is going to swear before the King-makers and then we will give him a stool name,” he stated. Meanwhile the Eastern Regional Police command says it will take any action appropriate if the installation happens.
