The biometric registration of inmates of Prisons is underway. There are over thirteen thousand eligible voters in various prisons across the country but officials fear very few of them may eventually be registered. Initially the exercise was suspended by the Electoral Commission following complaints that its requirements for prisoners were too rigid and would disenfranchise them. The prisoners are expected to provide identification cards for the biometric registration exercise. The exercise is expected to be done simultaneously in 43 prison Centres. Principal Director of Public Affairs at the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor who was at the Nsawam Prisons to monitor the process told Joy News the exercise was peaceful. She was confident by the close of day, all eligible prisoners in the facility would be registered.
