Businessman Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome has been discharged by an Accra High Court after state prosecutors told the court they were no longer interested in pursuing the charges of fraud and corrupting public officials against him and three other.State prosecutors led by Cynthia Lamptey filed a nolle prosequi in respect of the state's decision Tuesday morning. The state brought charges of fraud against, Mr Woyome, Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, his wife, Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh and Mr. Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, over a GHC51 million judgment debt payment to Mr Woyome. The case has been pending before an Acrra High Court for months and suffered consistent adjournments at the request of the prosecution. The court set today for commencement of the trial after investigators yesterday argued Mr Woyome failed to avail himself for court processes. It was therefore expected that the state would state its case but state prosecutors, according to Joy News' Sammy Darko who was in court stunned even the defence lawyers with a motion of nolle prosequi. It is suspected that the state may re-arrest the four and proffer different charges against them but one defence counsel says he does not entertain any such fears.Sammy Darko said Mr Woyome, after the court discharged him, remained in the court room apparently fearing that he would be rearrested when he steps out.
