A 27-member team of doctors and other health professionals from the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre (RPSBC) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has arrived in Tamale to perform a number of surgeries for patients there.
The group, which is led by the Director of RPSBC, Mr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, arrived over the weekend and will be in Tamale for a week to perform surgeries such as repair of clefts and lip palate, contractures due to burns, removal of keloids and scars, among others. Over a hundred patients have been slated to benefit from this exercise.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu.
The main objective for the outreach is to build capacity for reconstructive and plastic surgery practice in the northern sector of the country and in future establish a Centre there.
The medical outreach is part of activities to mark RPSBC’s 15th Anniversary under the theme: “Saving Lives through Effective Burns and Trauma Management”
Other activities to be undertaken during the outreach will be a lecture for medical students of the University for Development Studies, Tamale and a press briefing.
