Custom officials in the Ashanti Region have intercepted a cache of weapons in a vehicle heading to Accra, Wednesday.
Nine AK47 assault rifles and a pistol were concealed in the cargo session of the vehicle, Luv FM’s Elton John Brobby reported.
Four persons have been arrested, including the driver in connection with the ammunition.
The vehicle was from Cote d’Ivoire and headed to Accra.
After interrogation, the driver told members of the Ashanti Regional Security Command his truck with registration number 8198 DE01 Cote d'Ivoire was hired by some people to transport goods including Kola nuts to Kumasi.
According to Brobby the AK47 riffles were hidden in the Kola nuts but through the vigilance of the Customs officials in Anyaa Nkwanta the suspects were arrested.
It is not too clear who owned the rifles and what they will be used for.
