The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding a probe into the alleged brutality of Multimedia journalist Latif Iddrisu by some police officers.
National Organizer of the party, Kofi Adams, said he thought it was a one-off incident but listening to the journalist, he gathered it was “a well-planned, calculated and orchestrated.”
He said, “to pull him [Mr Iddris] further into their yard and use what should have served as a protection for people to molest him is uncalled for.”
Mr Adams was speaking at the Accra residence of the reporter Monday when the NDC delegation paid him a visit.
The delegation was led by the Second Vice Chairperson, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Mr Adams and legal team member Kojogah Adawudu among others.
Whilst reporting on the disturbances at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) following the arrest of the NDC Deputy General Secretary last Tuesday, some police personnel allegedly pounced on Mr Iddrisu.
The reporter had gone to ask the police officers the name of the water cannons and tools being used to keep the NDC supporters under control to aid his report which the officer refused to answer.
When he turned to leave, he was hit from behind by the officer and was kicked and hit by several scores of officers with the butt of their guns.
Mr Adams said the behaviour of the police officer was uncalled for and called on authorities to step up investigations into the incident.
On her part, Mrs Mould-Iddrisu expressed her party’s commitment to support all Ghanaians who were brutalised as a result of their involvement in seeking justice for Koku Anyidoho.
