Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has dismissed early discussions about the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) 2028 presidential candidate, urging party members to concentrate on delivering on the government's mandate.

Speaking on The KSM Show on Friday, August 7, the Vice President said it was too early to engage in succession debates, stressing that the party was elected to solve the country's challenges rather than campaign for the next election.

Responding to questions about whether she intends to contest the NDC's flagbearer position, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the party's future electoral prospects depend on the performance of the current administration and the support given to President John Dramani Mahama.

"Whether we are going or coming depends on the work we are doing. It depends on the support we are giving our president who's leading the charge," she said.

She cautioned that premature discussions about the party's next flagbearer could distract the government from its responsibilities.

"If we are already going left or right, and centre and back, and it's not even time, I think it's a betrayal of the cause of the people, and I don't think it is right," she said. "Please help us to fulfil the dreams of this beautiful country. Let's focus on getting the job done."

The Vice President also noted that the NDC's victory in the 2024 general election was the result of years of hard work and should not be overshadowed by early political maneuvering.
