The University of Ghana has banned open air political activities on campus. The decision is set to bring students in a clash with authorities once again. A circular reportedly signed by the registrar, J.M Budu, bans all political rallies, congresses and conventions with immediate effect. It is also against open air propagation of political messages through public address systems. But the Student’s Representative Council President, Edmond Combat says the action is uncalled for and infringes on the rights of students. He told Joy News University of Ghana forms a literate population where the students understand the issues and must engage political actors. He said if this platform is not granted them how will they be able to engage the politicians. Meanwhile, the National Youth Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress has condemned the directive by the university. Ludwig Akpene Hlodze told Joy News the university has always been the training ground for burgeoning politicians adding the directive is in bad taste.
