Chief Executive officer of the Institute of Executive Studies, Mr Philip Gamey, has called for a legislation on Human Resource practice in Ghana to safeguard the activities of the practitioners.

The Human Resources legislation, he said will  establish a framework that will give backing and sets standards that guide how practitioners, labour institutions and government interact to ensure effective HR practice.

It will also help the government in the area of employment, Mr Gamey said, adding that HR practitioners will be empowered to perform their jobs, make decisions, interact with their management and staff.

Mr Gamey made the suggestion in an interview after a one-day executive training workshop organised by the institute.

The workshop was attended by 60 senior HR managers drawn from both private and state-owned companies.

 Dubbed 'HR engineering conference', the event brought together directors, executives and managers in the HR divisions and departments from various companies to think about the direction HR practice is headed and to formulate sustainable strategies.

 It also seeks to strengthen their capacities to enable them to perform their duties efficiently.

Philip Gamey said operations of the institute are mostly based on research.

He said their research findings have revealed that HR is not making the needed impact and dealing with challenges was a problem.

According to him although there are HR practitioners in Ghana, due the challenges and lack of advanced training skills, the top companies employ foreign practitioners.

He noted that  HR is pivotal to the success of companies.

He advised that HR manager must be able to tell directors the return on investment of every HR initiative.

He adds that HR interventions must be able to develop key business programs and proposals.

Established in 2008 the Institute has trained many people for both local and international job market.
