Ambassador Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, Upper West Regional minister has urged senior citizens in the region to drum home the value of peace and stability in their communities. He stated that it is becoming increasingly worrying for the government and the people to spend their energies and resources in resolving differences and conflicts arising out of chieftaincy and land disputes in particular. Ambassador Sulemani made the statement at the celebration of senior citizens day in Wa. He posited that he does not want to drag them in to these conflicts but call on them to exert their influence in resolving these conflicts. He asked them to play effective roles in reminding the people that they have a common identity and should crave for unity in the community. The regional minister assured them that government on its part will continue to do all it can to maintain peace at all times because it is a necessary prerequisite for development. Ambassador Sulemani added that the government will do everything to ensure peaceful and transparent elections stating that they would conduct a clean campaign based on achievements in the last three and half years which has made significant impact on the lives of the people. ‘‘Our region has witnessed a massive infrastructural development in education and health in particular. We are hoping that two new senior high schools at Funsi in the Wa East district and Gbollu in the Sissala West will take-off this year’’, the minister said. The provision of these facilities according to him is expected to boost agricultural level of the region and improve the lives of the people
