The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako is wondering why the Attorney General, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor has remained silent over reports that he faked an assassination attempt on himself.
Dr Kunbuor, then Minister of Health reported to the Police that someone attempted taking his life when a gunshot was fired at him whilst driving.
But forensic investigations into the matter by the police suggest that the gun was shot from the car and not from outside as the former Health Minister alleged.
The claims by the security agencies have led to several questions being raised about the integrity of Mr. Kunbuor with former AG Martin Amidu casting doubts over his ability to unravel the infamous Woyomegate scandal.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday, Kweku Baako stated that since the investigative report on the alleged assassination attempt became public, not only had Benjamin Kunbuor remained silent but the appointing authority, the president had also remained very quiet about the issue.
Kweku Baako was speaking to a suit filed by the Centre for National Affairs, Tuesday at the Supreme Court against Dr. Kunbuor over the allegations that he faked an assassination plot on himself.
The Centre for National Affairs, plaintiff in the case is asking the court to declare Dr. Kumbuor’s continued stay in office a violation of article 284 of the constitution. Article 284 of the constitution says “a public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts or is likely to conflict with the performance of the functions of his office”.
The New Crusading Guide Editor-in-Chief said the matter had done great damage to the integrity of the A-G and there was the need for him to resign from his position.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a member of the government communication team, also speaking on Kokrokoo took a swipe at the Center for National Affairs, accusing is members of being New Patriotic Party sympathizers who were hiding under the guise of an advocacy group.
According to him, the Senior Policy Analyst of the advocacy group, Rocky Obeng is a known NPP sympathizer and that his claims against the Attorney General were politically motivated and intended to to dent the image of Dr Kunbuor.
Kwakye Ofosu further stated that the NPP were in a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of Dr Kunbuor whom he said punched holes into the propaganda machine of the NPP when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament over 94 million Euros judgement debt paid to Construction Pioneers.
