The Electoral Commission has revealed that non-resident traders at Makola and its environs who took part in the recent biometric registration at the Odododiodoo constituency may have their votes transferred to their respective constituencies.During the biometric registration exercise, the attempts by traders to register were met with stiff opposition from mostly National Democratic Congress’s representatives who argued that the traders do not qualify to register in the constituency.Although some traders eventually registered, those who challenged their eligibility were made to fill a ‘challenge form’ which meant that the voter ID cards would only be issued to them after pending issues are resolved.According to the Odododiodoo District Review Committee which was set up by the EC to review the challenges of the biometric registration, most of the traders who were challenged are not residents of the community hence their votes should be transferred to their respective constituencies.In an interview with Joy FM, the Electoral Officer for the Odododiodio constituency, Eunice Yeboah revealed that a total of 1,449 challenge forms were received across the constituency.She added that, out of the 709 challenge sheets that have been dealt with, it was mostly found out that most of the traders are not residents and could neither be classified as ordinarily residents of Odododiodoo.According to Ms Yeboah, those who fell within the bracket of ordinarily residents are squatters but not those who come to trade in the constituency.She further added those affected would only get their voter ID cards after the EC has been able to clear all issues surrounding their registration.
