The committee working on the merger between the Convention People’s Party and the People’s National Convention is forging ahead with the alliance for the December 2012 elections despite recent challenges.
Recent pronouncements by key figures within the PNC have brought to the fore disagreements about the merger.
The committee however says it is done with its meetings and will be submitting a final report on common issues they agreed on to both parties by the end of this week for consideration.
The parties are expected to field a common Presidential candidate and in some areas common parliamentary candidates for the December election.
Second National Vice Chairperson and CPP representative, Rhodaline Imoru Ayarna told Joy FM so far the discussions have been fruitful.
The PNC’s National Organizer Emmanuel Wilson also told Joy FM he is confident the proposals they are putting forward will be acceptable to the general membership of the two parties.
He added that the recent merger talks have been stronger than that of previous years which according to him would make the two parties present a united front during the upcoming general elections.
He said some of the issues discussed included which symbols should be employed for the upcoming ballot, presenting a common flag bearer, name of the political party to be used among other modalities.
