A ranking member of the Transport Committee of Parliament has expressed disappointment in the alleged malfeasance at the Metro Mass Transit (MMT).

Frank Agbodzah told Joy News’ Emefa Apawu the “gravity” of the malfeasance is “so shocking.”

According to him, the 1 million cedis said to have been lost as a result of the alleged malfeasance could have been used to but a number of buses for the company.

JoyNews investigations have uncovered that the state-owned Metro Mass Transit Limited lost over ¢1 million, as a result of under-valuation of more than 200 buses sold by the company. 

The buses were declared “unserviceable” and as a company policy, they were supposed to be sold off as scrap. 

JoyNews, however, found out the valuation process was compromised and this has cost the company more than one million cedis in revenue.

An auctioneer who claims to have facilitated the sale of 18 unserviceable buses, complains that he has been shortchanged.

He told JoyNews' Manasseh Azure Awuni that the buses were sold to people recommended by the Board Chair, Ahmed Arthur.

Contributing to the matter, the Ranking member of the Transport Committee Frank Agbodza said it was shocking that people paid to deliver and protect the public purse will superintend over the alleged acts of malfeasance.

According to him, some members of the management and board carried out the alleged acts of malfeasance at the blind side of the sector minister.

“I am so much disappointed,” he said, and urged the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to look into the matter.

Already, the matter has been sent to the Special Prosecutor by some workers who accuse the head of management Bennet Aboagye and the Board Chair, Ahmed Arthur of acts of corruption.
