A five-car-pile-up on the N1 highway left a heavy traffic on the Akweteyman stretch Tuesday morning.
At least four people are reported to have severely been injured from the crash, which left two of the vehicles completely mangled, JoyNews' Komla Adom reported.
Witnesses reported seeing a speeding vehicle somersaulting and crashed into four other vehicles at about 6 am.
All vehicles involved have been towed to the offices of the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) at Tesano.
“Hours after the incident, however, there is huge vehicular congestion on that stretch of the road. The scene of the accident is also stained with blood and shattered glasses,” the reporter added.
The N1 built during the administration of President John Agyekum Kufuor has been known to record some of the deadliest accidents since its completion.
Although it is one of the widest roads in the city running through habited communities, the road has no traffic lights from the Achimota stretch through Akweteyman to Lapaz.
The only overhead crossings are toward Lapaz and near the Dzorwulu end. People living in and around Achimota who have to cross the road, have to maneuver their way through the speeding automobiles.
