The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed that it will be launching its campaign for the 2012 general elections on August 25.
With about five months to go for the presidential and parliamentary elections, political parties are yet to announce dates they will launch their campaigns for the elections.
But speaking on Election Headquarters on Joy FM Thursday, Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey disclosed that the party will hold a national conference on August 25 which they will use to launch its campaign for the 2012 elections.
“Currently we looking at the 25th August …the national conference and the launch of the campaign,” he disclosed.
Touching on the party’s manifesto, the NPP Chairman said they were far advanced putting it together and their experiences as a party which has been in government before has played a crucial role in its drafting.
The new manifesto, he said, “basically follows up on the core beliefs of the tradition and the vision of the tradition…” adding it “will be accepted by the conference on [August] 25 and will form the basis of the launch of the campaign.”
A member of NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s campaign team, John Boadu speaking on their campaign said the party has shifted gear from the Listening Tour to the Restoration of Hope Tour after visiting six regions.
The shift in gear, the NPP Deputy Communication’s Director explained, was necessitated by the feedback they got from their numerous interactions with the masses whom he said “feel disappointed.”
He said, among other things, the party assured them that the over 150,000 people who don’t get to proceed from the Junior High School level to a higher level will be a thing of the past with the introduction of policies to develop and enhance their capacities.
He added that the flagbearer of the party promised the electorate that, teachers will be motivated to accept posting to all corners of the country without hesitation.
