Multichoice Ghana, on Tuesday 17th of July 2012, once again supported the Ghana Journalist Awards (GJA) by donating GH 3,500 to the GJA towards the 2012 GJA scheduled for Saturday August 25th at the Banquet Hall of the State House.
Presenting the cheque, the General Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills commended the Ghana Journalists Association for its tremendous work over the years as he recounted the numerous roles played by the organization.
“We at Multichoice are happy to be associated with the Ghana Journalists Awards over the years and I am confident of Multichoice Ghana’s continuous support for the awards. The GJA Awards is a scheme geared towards the development and growth of our media fraternity” he said.
Mr. Sunkwa - Mills explained the rational for Multichoice Ghana supporting the GJA award category for education.“Multichoice Ghana’s decision to sponsor the GJA Awards is in line with Multichoice Africa’s commitment to Corporate Social Investment initiatives. This program has seen the Multichoice Resource Center (MRC) project grow substantially with more than 800 MRCs spread across the continent.
“Our focus has been on education hence the use of our top class technology and a wide range of channels to empower others, nurture talent, harness skills and expand opportunities. This forms our basis for supporting the education electronic media award; however, we are considering print media in the future considering our involvement with them”.
The cheque was received by the Treasurer for the Ghana Journalists Association Mrs. Linda Asante- Agyei. Thanking Multichoice Ghana for its kind gesture, the General Secretary of the Ghana Journalist Association, Mr. Bright Blewu was optimist the donation will go a long way to deepen journalistic practice in the country.
“It is with great joy that we are receiving this cheque today being the first from any of our sponsors this year. On behalf of the GJA I take the opportunity to thank Multichoice Ghana for their support over the years. I must admit, Multichoice Ghana has been such a great sponsor and a partner in the development of the arts and education industry” he emphasized.
The theme for this year’s GJA Awards is “Giving credence to free and fair elections; the role of the media”. Commenting on the theme, the vice President of the GJA Mr. Affail Monney entreated all journalists to be circumspect in the reportage with a focus on objectivity.
According to Mr. Monney, it is the duty of journalists in the country to protect the peace and stability the nation. He appealed to them to uphold the ethics of the profession as the nation enters into the electioneering session.
