Her tenacity to perform her duties as a teacher in spite of her ailment paid off when her efforts caught the attention of the Northern Regional Education Director.
A 30-year old female teacher of Solihiya Islamic Primary School at Salaga, Rebecca Yaa Chubari, skipped the usual vigorous nomination and vetting processes to win a best teacher award, a month after the official awards ceremony was held.
She was honoured with an Apsonic motorbike at a brief ceremony in Tamale, last Friday.
Churiba’s left hand and leg are swollen, making walking somehow difficult for her, but she never uses her ailment, as an excuse to flout service regulations.
Records at her former and current schools indicate she is punctual, hardworking and her lesson note is always up-to-date.
This was a testimony, the Northern Region’s Director of Education, Mrs Elizabeth De-Souza gave about Churiba before presenting her the prize.
She explained that the Directorate at its recent teacher’s award ceremony awarded four teachers from rural areas, who were all males. Fortunately, during her recent monitoring, she met Madam Churiba and was impressed with her diligence towards work, despite her challenge.
Mrs De-Souza urged other teachers to take inspiration from Churiba’s dedication to work.
The education director commended Camfed-Ghana for providing funds for Churiba’s prize.
