The running mate to the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the party will ensure that bad roads in northern Ghana are fixed if the NPP wins power.
He said the opposition party was very much aware of the challenges bedevilling the region and will do all it can to support the people there.
Dr Bawumia, who was rounding up his 16-day tour in the region, said this when he addressed residents of Tamale.
“Throughout our tour in the region…it has just been apparent that the road network in the northern region is probably the poorest that we have in the country.
“So there’s got to be real attention to it and not nominal attention…All the roads will be quite a priority that the NPP is going to address and we have to make sure that we actually put the resources to bear that will deal with this problem.”
Dr Bawumiah stressed that “if we are serious about making the three northern regions a bread basket of West Africa, you cannot make that type of progress in agriculture if you do not have a good road network.”
“And so we [NPP] are going to put in the resources under the Northern Development Programme… to make sure that these critical roads are actually worked on…”
