The New Patriotic Party on Saturday closed nominations for aspirants in the 45 newly created constituencies with officials of the party describing the response as “overwhelmingly successful”.
The party was compelled to open nominations last Tuesday when its attempt to block the Constitutional Instrument 78 creating the new constituencies from maturing into law was foiled by the ruling NDC’s majority.
Parliament on Tuesday passed the CI 78 into law after it rejected the report of the Committee on Subsidiary Legislation which identified several anomalies in the CI 78.
According to NPP’s Director of Research and Elections, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah in an interview with Joy News, the party is mobilizing resources to vet aspirants next Tuesday.
Martin Adjei Mensah further added that not only does the party expect the vetting to come off without hitches but also the primaries which has been scheduled for October 14.
The NPP parliamentary primaries for the newly created constituencies comes months after the ruling NDC had carried theirs in the then yet-to-be legalized constituencies some two months ago.
