The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker maintains that the ruling party will win the December general elections with or without its founder, Jerry Rawlings.
He said the NDC has outgrown personalities and thus the absence of an individual will not affect the electoral fortunes of the ruling party.
Former President Rawlings has revealed that he might not campaign for the NDC ahead of the December elections.
He made this public when the flag-bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him at his Ridge residence in Accra Thursday.
Mr. Rawlings also appealed to the NPP flag-bearer to ensure the total security of NDC members should he become president.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Ade Coker said Mr. Rawlings’ decision not to campaign for the NDC is understandable since according to him “age is catching up with him [Rawlings]”.
He likened the NDC to a moving train, saying, as people alight on the way, a lot more come on board hence the party is unfazed about the development.
“One individual does not add or subtract from the NDC. It is the totality of people that makes a party so the NDC will forge ahead,” he stressed.
The Greater Accra NDC Chairman noted that the unprecedented track record of the ruling party in its first term in office and a forthright President will give them a landslide victory on December 7.
Ade Coker urged party members to eschew any apathy and work hard to ensure victory for the NDC.
