The National Peace Council is urging aspirants in the upcoming elections, especially the presidential candidates, to do more to show their followers that they are interested in a peaceful process.
The comments come on the back of the historic meeting of National Democratic Congress (NDC) party founder Jerry Rawlings and Nana Addo, leader of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday.
The old foes, among other things, spoke about the need to ensure the upcoming elections were free, fair and peaceful.
Some sections of the populace have lauded the act as having the potential to reduce tension ahead of the polls.
A member of the Peace Council, Maulvi Wahab Adams who is also the Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Mission in Ghana told Joy News the move compliments efforts by the council for a violent free electioneering process.
He said the council has met and held discussions with all stakeholders ahead of the elections, saying “all that is meant to create an atmosphere of harmony as well as reconciliation where there has been animosity.”
