At least four young men have been arrested by police in Tamale over the attack on the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko told Joy News that the police arrested the four persons in a swoop at Aboabo community in Tamale.
He noted that the suspects were picked up at the hideout of the ‘Kandahar boys’, a vigilante group affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Initial reports cited the Kandahar boys as responsible for the attack on the Chief Executive of the hospital but the group later issued a statement disassociating itself from the action.

The young men stormed the offices of the Chief Executive Monday and drove him out; citing incompetence and corruption for their act.
They allege that the CEO, Dr David Kolbila has set up a number of companies that he uses to lobby for supplies for the hospital.

DSP Tanko noted that the police has since commenced a full scale investigation into the incident. “We are screening them [suspects] and we have called the hospital authorities who were present at the time of the attack to help us with the investigations,” he told The Pulse programme on Joy News TV.
He added that as at Wednesday afternoon, the police could not confirm whether the suspects were members of the Kandahar boys or not.
“We are still screening them and any development will be made known to the public,” he said.
He added that the police are ready to ensure the workers of the hospital are safe.

PRO of the hospital, Ken Osei Mensah who also spoke on the show was unimpressed by the assurances by the police.
According to him similar assurances were given in the past but the hooligans have returned to orchestrate the same lawlessness.
The staff of the hospital have since laid down their tools, saying, they do not feel safe in their working environment.
They are however providing emergency services and taking care of patients already in the facility.
Even though they have denied any involvement in the attack, the Kandahar boys have since called on the police to release their members, saying that they are innocent.
