Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports has launched a scathing attack on the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, describing him as a “shameful politicians”.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah said the conduct of the NPP scribe is an indictment on all politicians in the country.
Omane Boamah was reacting to an allegation by the NPP man that President John Mahama ‘bribed’ the Electoral Commission (EC) to disqualify former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings from contesting the December general election.
The EC rejected the nomination forms of Mrs. Rawlings citing anomalies in the forms presented to the Commission by her representatives.
But Sir John on Multi TV’s political talk show, Badwam contended that the President had a hand in the disqualification of Nana Konadu.
In a rebuttal, Dr. Omane Boamah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday debunked the allegation saying it is unfounded.
According to him, inasmuch as the EC is a state institution, it is autonomous and thus the President has no control over its activities.
The Deputy Sports Minister challenged Sir John to provide cogent evidence to substantiate his baseless assertion.
He added that Sir John has never shown any leadership qualities worthy of emulation by the youth and promising politicians ever since he assumed the position.
The NDC man stated the claim by Sir John exposes NPP's penchant to denigrate President Mahama at every given opportunity.
Omane Boamah urged the NPP not draw the EC into its "dirty politics" ahead of the December 7 elections for lasting peace in the country.
