Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Mathew Opoku Prempeh has taken a swipe at President Mahama, tasking the president to equally sack his health advisers claiming they are "unintelligent".According to him, president Mahama "lied" to Ghanaians about the health insurance scheme when he pooh-poohed Nana Addo’s free NHIS promise for children under 18 years, and "must resign or be stripped naked". Dr Opoku Prempeh was speaking in reference to President Mahama who made mockery of the flagbearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party for promising children under 18 free healthcare when children are already enjoying such a policy under the NDC government. The President expressed surprise about Nana Akufo-Addo's comments when a government he served under gave an administrative directive in 2009 that a child below 18 years must be treated without any fees.NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dunkwa Akufo-Addo, had promised that, in addition to every child under the age of 18 gaining access to free quality education, his administration will offer all children free access to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), when the NPP is voted into office in the December polls.Nana Addo explained that parents will no longer have to be subscribers to the NHIS for their children to benefit, adding that millions of children will be covered by the free healthcare. Addressing supporters at a mini rally in the Western Region where he is continuing with his campaign, President Mahama said a leader of a major political party like the NPP should have been on top of issues before coming out to make a promise.But, speaking on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii-Sen on Monday, Mathew Opoku Prempeh noted that the president lied to Ghanaians because no child in this country is enjoying free healthcare under the NDC as espoused by president Mahama.“President Mahama lied because he said under the NDC, children under the age of 18 are enjoying free healthcare. It is different from what the scheme is saying that any children whose parents are subscribers of the NHIS can enjoy free healthcare but must also register first so what the president is saying is surprising. If president Mahama is saying Nana Addo should sack his health advisors, he must equally sack his for giving wrong tutorials on the NHIS. Since 2004 children under 18 years enjoys free healthcare if their children are NHIS subscribers but president Mahama said his administrative policy brought it in 2009 which is not true” he bellowed.NAPO as he is affectionately called, Hon. Mathew Opoku Prempeh asserted that president Mahama misconstrued what the NPP flagbearer said because Nana Addo was talking about free healthcare to children of under 18 years with or without the NHIS card.“Even president Mahama did not understand what Nana Addo said because he talked about free healthcare for children whose parents are NHIS subscribers but Nana Addo was talking about free healthcare for children under the age of 18 years whether their parents are NHIS subscribers or not”.He stressed that if president Mahama is saying that Nana Addo should sack his health advisors for giving him wrong information on the NHIS, then he (the president) must be stripped naked for lying that children under 18 years benefit from free healthcare under his government since 2009.He challenged president Mahama to provide the amount his government devoted for the free healthcare for children under 18 years if indeed the government is providing free healthcare for children. “If indeed children under 18 benefits from free healthcare under NDC since 2009, then he must show us the amount he devoted for that. The president must equally sack his advisors for giving him wrong information and he must magnanimously also resign for lying”.The NPP’s director of elections opined that if Nana Addo should sack his health advisors, then the president must also sack his health minister because in 2 years the NHIS is running on deficit.
