The leadership of breakaway National Democratic Party has accused ruling National Democratic Congress of financially inducing its (NDP) leading members to defect.
The NDP claimed it had uncovered diabolic moves to spread falsehood on a host of issues about the party which border on criminality, intimidating, harassing and threatening their members, supporters and sympathizers in their lawful quest to serve the party.
“Currently, a delegation of top personalities from a political party is going round the country to use financial and material inducement to influence leading members of the NDP, especially parliamentary candidates as well as regional and constituency executives to defect from the party,” the NDP alleged in a release on Tuesday.
The release said the NDP leadership had in its possession, various tape recordings from four regions which they are prepared to release to the media to back its claim.
According to the releases, “the recordings in one of the regions captured one person highly connected in high office asking NDP people to leave their account numbers so monies could be deposited in them while they announce their defection and join John Mahama Fun Club”.
It said another tape “captured another senior office holder in a political party in Ghana, asking NDP executives to sign a resolution for defection to their party in order to be paid some huge sums of money”.
“Indeed all these go to confirm, the assertion of former president Jerry John Rawlings that there is deep seated corruption among political office holders.
The NDP wants to assure all her cherished supporters that we will not be deterred by all these evil machinations, we are focused to restoring participatory democracy, empowering the people, preventing elitism and bigotry, and providing inspirational leadership as a guarantee for national stability and development,” the statement said.
