The Greater Accra Police Command has handed over the flagbearer of the New Vision Party to the Police Criminal Investigations Department as it takes over investigations into bribery allegations involving top officials of the Electoral Commission.
Joy News has learnt, Prophet Daniel Nkansah voluntarily reported himself to the police on Wednesday morning and was briefly detained before his transfer to the Police headquarters.
Prophet Nkansah, has publicly stated he bribed the two top EC officials including the Director of Elections, Kofi Asomaning.
Both EC officials who were arrested on Monday and subsequently bailed have denied the allegation.
Public Affairs Director at the Accra Regional Police DSP Freeman Tettey said even though the CID had taken over the case the police will offer the needed assistance as far as investigations into the matter are concerned.
Meanwhile Prophet Nkansah says he stands by his allegation that the officers first demanded money from him in order to facilitate his documents for the approval of his nomination.
He said the fact that the Ghc 1,600 he paid to the said officials has been returned, and is now in the custody of the police, is enough to justify his claim.
In another development, the NVP presidential candidate says he has filed a motion seeking to stop the EC from all other activities towards the December 7 polls.
According to him until police investigations into the bribery allegations are complete the EC cannot go ahead with the elections.
