The flagbearer of the New Vision Party says he offered bribe to two Directors of the Electoral Commission to expose them and their corrupt deeds.According to Prophet Daniel Nkansah, the EC officials-Mr Kofi Asumani, the Director of Elections and Asante Kissi, Director of Elections in charge of Logistics- demanded bribes as precondition to be cleared to contest in the December elections. The NVP flagbearer said he had no option than to trap the officials by informing two journalists to be witnesses. The two officials were arrested and charged with bribery and corruption but were granted bail pending further investigations.Media reports, Thursday also suggested Prophet Nkansah had been arrested by the police and was assisting with investigations but he has dismissed the reports. He told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah he voluntarily turned himself in and was never arrested by the police. He said if anything, it was rather the police men who apologized to his son who also doubles as the General Secretary of the party. He did not say the reason for the apology. He vowed to sue media outlets, particularly the Daily Guide Newspaper which reported he had been arrested.Prophet Nkansah is also angry with the EC for what he said was the unjust disqualification of his party from contesting the 2012 elections. He said he will be asking the court to put an injunction on the EC from organizing the 2012 elections
ASP Joseph Darkwah of the police CID also denied reports Prophet Daniel Nkansah was arrested. He told Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Prophet Nkansah “reported himself” to the police and “was not arrested”.He said the Police CID is studying the dockets of the case and will take the appropriate action when necessary. He would not be led into discussing the details of the case, except to say all the people mentioned in the alleged bribery, including the supposed witnesses will be interrogated.
