The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is scheduled to meet to decide the fate of all party members contesting the 2012 Parliamentary elections as independent candidates.
Some NDC members have filed their nominations to contest the December parliamentary elections as independent candidates due to what they call unfair treatment during the party’s primaries.
Notable among the aggrieved candidates are the MP for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu and the former candidate for the Okaikoi North constituency, Andrew Okaikoi.
The party’s Deputy General Secretary in-charge of Operations, George Lawson told Citi News, the party will give an ultimatum to such candidates to rescind their decisions.
He said: “We are going to take a decision and give all the independent candidates an ultimatum and after that we will take an action. We have so many independent candidates so we are going to sit and decide on them very soon.”
“I have just compiled the list and given it to my boss. We operate under the doctrine of fairness and so we are treating everybody fairly,” he added.
