The Civil Service Council is expressing disappointment in the manner in which the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is handling the strike declared by Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana, CLOGSAG.
Last Friday, the Council appealed to CLOGSAG members to call off the strike and return to the negotiating table.
But the Director of Grievance and Negotiations at the Commission, Cornelius Yawson says the Civil Service Council has no mandate to negotiate salaries.
Meanwhile, Head of the Civil Service Council, Dr. Robert Dodoo told Joy News the Commission’s comments could inflame passion and derail efforts to end the strike.
He therefore warned the Fair Wages Commission to tread cautiously.
“It will be foolhardy if civil servants are on strike and we fold our arms and we do nothing about it.”
He blamed the Fair Wages for the current impasse and debunks media reports suggesting government business is grinding to a halt as a result of the strike, stating that CLOGSAG members have not completely abandoned their post.
