The British High Commissioner to Ghana Mr Peter Jones has expressed his deepest sympathy to the people of Ghana over the Melcom tragedy, Wednesday. Three people were confirmed dead when a Melcom shopping mall at Achimota caved in. Forty four others were rescued but there were fears a couple more could be trapped. Owners of the mall say about 50 workers reported for work shortly before the accident occurred. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Rescue workers have been working tirelessly to save lives. The incident has also attracted international interest and sympathy with some of the international websites such BBC reporting the accident. The British High Commissioner to Ghana Peter Jones said he is grief stricken over the accident. “It is with a very heavy heart that I heard earlier Wednesday of the Melcom store collapse in Achimota. On behalf of the British High Commission I would like to extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to everyone affected by this incident. To the people of Ghana and the families of those lost in this tragedy, our thoughts and prayers go out to you,” he said in a statement.
